My final performance dance for Personal Creative Process. The assignment was to draw nine drawings using specific shapes, pick three to turn into a story, and tell it.
music by Mr. Rock - • wii theme but its the worst thing you... (I did not make it, and do not own it!)
For my project, I chose to dance the story of a worm who eats a flower and grows into a tree. While choreographing, I reflected on the messy nature of growth. Sometimes, you'll be going through your life, encounter something that pushes you forward into painful, chaotic change, and emerge as an entirely new kind of being. This is the first piece of performance art about nature that I have made.
This dance video was filmed after incorporating the feedback of my instructor and classmates, and I am so grateful for their input and to be studying at a school that supports whimsical, joyful, and unique storytelling. With some more cleaning, I would love to perform it in a theater some day. Maybe in conjunction with my play about the worm who wants to fly! Maybe I'll be an actor in it this time.
One of my goals for the next year is to learn how to properly do the worm dance move... and make more weird art performance, but this is satisfying enough for now. Coming up in 2022? More performance art dance, original music, behind the scenes of the masters of fine arts program at Columbia College Chicago, and art assignments.
